Do’s & Dont’s of Lingerie

Many of my clients do not have any lingerie, never wear lingerie and some have never worn lingerie before at all.

If you have never immersed yourself into the world of lingerie, it can be quite intimidating especially when added on top of the idea of taking photos in it. So, I’ve prepared a little guide to help you choose the perfect outfit for your boudoir session.

Do make sure your lingerie fits. Really. It sounds like a no brainer, but it’s incredibly easy to make mistakes when you are fitting yourself.

For example, one of the biggest mistakes women make when fitting their bra is increasing band size instead of cup size leaving you with a lot of boob flowing over the cup. Don't change band size unless you are unable to get a few fingers under the band of your bra.

It is best to be fitted by a professional at a lingerie shop or in the studio lingerie boutique.

Don’t forget that lingerie is for YOU. Only wear styles that make you feel incredible. Often times women ask their friends or husband what they like on them which can lead to choosing something that they don’t really feel comfortable in, which will affect your shooting experience and your photos. If you like it, wear it. If you aren’t feeling it, say no. Always.

Do choose high quality fabrics. Again, if you are not comfortable while shooting, you won’t look comfortable in your photos. Uncomfortable fabrics like itchy lace or silks that trap heat in will make you feel uncomfortable and you’ve already invested so much into your shoot. Don’t skimp on the quality of your lingerie.

Don’t limit yourself to the typical black & red colors. Choose colors that you know look good on you or colors that you love. We have put a lot of effort into tailoring this session specifically for you, you should have your favorite colors that make you feel sexy & empowered as well. We sit outside of the box here.

Do buy a bodysuit. They can be intimidating but I promise you there is a body suit for every body type and they are always very flattering when you find the right one. They can hide the things we would rather not focus on (eh hem, the tummy for most of us) and accentuate things we do want to see like dem titties. They can also show off the flattest of butts if they are cut for that.

Don’t bring me a mother fucking baby doll. Okay, I’m kidding. If you JUST LOVE the baby doll lingerie I won’t fight you on it. I can work with those, but hear me out. You are supposed to be getting empowered and confident and hiding behind a big ol flowy piece of fabric does not scream confident. We want to see the shape of you, okay? I know it can be intimidating. If you have heard my story, then you know I understand but I am here to tell you to be bold and stick mostly to form fitting lingerie.

When you book a session at Alchemy Babes, I will walk through all of these steps & more to prepare for your shoot.
