Do I have to be naked?
One of my most asked questions.
I’m not sure what universe those who ask this are living in, but in my universe how naked you or I get in any situation is ENTIRELY OUR CALL.
There is so much to unpack on this topic and I will try to keep it brief but this is a hill I will die on, so bear with me.
Why in the world would I require nudity to do a shoot with me? Why would ANY photographer require that? I get so fired up over the fact that women still expect to have so little control during such an intimate and personal experience.
We are gonna have to get a whole lot more “rude” if we are ever gonna get anywhere. If you don’t want to take nudes you should be telling ME that we aren’t doing nudes, not asking me if I will make you do it. It is not rude to refuse to do something you are not comfortable with.
It’s YOUR BODY.
I’m sure you have already figured out that, no, you absolutely do not have to be naked. You are in control of this entire experience. I might run an idea by you, but I will never be offended if you say no. It’s actually quite the opposite. I’m proud when my clients draw the line. That’s what I want you to do. That is being empowered.
With all that being said, if you want to get naked, then by all means, get naked. Getting naked is also empowering. Doing whatever tf you want is empowering.
Alright, I’ll get to the point now….
If you choose to shoot nudes, there are many different levels of nudity.
The most comfortable type of nude photograph would be implied nude. One of my bonus sets is “In the Sheets.” This is where you pose with only a sheet. It is implied to the viewer that you have nothing on under the sheet, but only you and I know if you really are nude or not, and I’ll never tell.
Another nude option would be a top only photograph. You can tastefully lay it all out or you can pose nude but without showing too much. Maybe we just let a little side boob show or you cup your breasts in your hands.
Fine art nudes are the most “risque”type of images I offer. These are fully nude, full body images. Breasts can be shown or not, but genitalia tastefully hidden. We accomplish this with posing and & lighting.
I do not photograph genitalia or any explicit nudes or sexual acts, though I am 100% in support of having images like that made by someone else if you would like them. My issues with explicit images are only legal.
In conclusion, I think you should do whatever you are comfortable with and I will support any level of nudity that you choose.
