Self Love Practice #3

Do what you love.

It’s almost too simple but think about it, when was the last time you did something that YOU love doing?

It wasn’t that long ago I sat sobbing in my doctor’s office asking myself the same question and I could not remember. I had fallen off the self love wagon hard and I was laser focused on work & raising my family. We had 3 kids in sports, some of them playing on two teams at once. I barely had time to eat, let alone hike or camp.

What is the saying? No one knows how to pour from an empty cup quite like a Mom. And it’s true, it’s true of non moms as well. It’s easy for people to ask more for more and more and more of women, because we find ways to keep giving.

But our cups need filled as well and one of the best ways to fill your cup is by doing something you love, just because you love doing it and often.

No Multitasking

Let’s pretend that one thing you really love doing is cooking amazing meals. You should totally do that, but don’t count a Tuesday night, rushed, but delicious, dinner as your “self love time.” You deserve better than that. You deserve to get the kids a sitter and take a cooking class, or prepare a meal with your partner at home.

Grocery shopping without kids is not a break.

Taking your camper to a cheerleading competition is not camping.

You get the idea. Make time for you to do the things you love in peace and quiet and an environment that fills you up and doesn’t deplete you.
