How to make your boudoir photos unique with props.
If you’ve worked with me in the past, you already know an Alchemy Babes Boudoir Session is made just for you. I want each client experience to be different and unique to that clients needs & expectations and I go to great lengths to exceed them.
One way to make a session all about you is to use props.
I have to be honest, the word prop makes me cringe a bit every time I hear it. It reminds me of my family portrait days when, for whatever reason, everyone was all about props. Giant Easter eggs, vintage suitcases, the tried and true & sign. Gross. In photography school I was taught that props can often be used as a crutch to grab attention even if the image itself was not well taken so I am, admittedly, a bit jaded.
Props can be a great way to express the client’s personality and interests. The key is to consider the purpose. Is this prop part of your life, does it represent something you love doing or is this prop just an interesting thing to look at it?
Examples of tasteful props can be your husband’s long sleeve button down from your wedding, your violin, your partner’s favorite sports jersey or your grandmother’s heirloom mirror.
When selecting props for a boudoir session it is important to consider the WHY. Why do you want this prop?
Are you nervous and want something to hold in your hand?
Do you think putting your heads through a giant empty photo frame is cute?
Or is this a carefully selected item that helps to illustrate who you are as a person to the photo’s viewer?
